  • A typical human brain comprises about 2 to 2.5% of the total body weight. However the brain uses up 20% of the total energy and O2 intake.
  • Brain is 73% water, similar to our heart. That is why it is so important to be hydrated, a little bit of dehydration and attention, memory and cognitive skills gets affected.
  • Brain is the fattiest organ of the body, weighing a little over 3 lbs.
  • All brain cells are not alike. There are many different types of neurons in the brain, each serving different function.
  • Brain is the last organ in the human body to mature. It isn’t until about 25 years of age that brain reaches its full maturity.
  • Brain starts slowing down at the age of 24, right before it’s maturity.
  • Though it slows down, it starts getting better at some activity over the other.
  • Information in brain can travel faster than speeding race cars with a speed of more than 250miles/hr.
  • Brain generates enough electricity to power a low wattage LED light.
  • Average brain generates 10s of thousands of thoughts each day.
  • 750 to 1000 milliliters of blood flow through the brain every minute.
  • Brain processes visual images faster than time taken to blink.
  • People who have jobs with high cognitive demands like London Taxi drivers who are to remember roads and directions, would have a larger hippocampus ( the memory center of the brain).
  • When we face the threat of failure the brain triggers a biochemical chain hormone reaction flooding our system with hormone and causing physical changes which we collectively label as stress.
  • Female brains are better than male brain in identifying differences of color or to say can identify a wider variety of color.
  • Male brains are better at spatial and reasoning related issues.
  • When men sees a competition, it drives up testosterone which triggers the amygdala and they would respond with the drive to win. But in case of women there us a surge of estrogen, so women will want to win but they are not so driven by their competitive nature as men are.
  • Women brains are very good as following instructions , remembering things better than male brains.
  • Male brains are not as adaptive as female brains.
  • Brain has no sensory receptors, it’s the skin which has the pain fiber. So one can open up the skull and brain but would not feel pain.
